The trial of Peter Nwachukwu, husband of late gospel singer Osinachi, has been adjourned to Monday, June 20.

The hearing was scheduled to come up  today but the register of the Federal Capital Territory High Court said the trial judge, Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme, was absent and would not be sitting

The court had remanded Nwachukwu in the Kuje correctional facility pending the determination of the case filed against him.

The case was filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on May 20, 2022, by the Head, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, Department of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Ministry of Justice, Yewande Gbola-Awopetun.

Nwachukwu was earlier detained at the Lugbe Divisional Police Headquarters, Abuja, following his arrest in April.

He was arrested over allegations that he repeatedly assaulted his wife until she died from injuries sustained in the process.

Osinachi died after spending days at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja.

The gospel artiste’s death sparked anger after her family alleged that her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, subjected her to domestic violence.
