WhatsApp now allows users to transfer their chat history from Android to iPhone. Before now users can only transfer chats from iPhone to Android.
This was announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a Facebook post.
Zuckerberg stated that Meta is enabling a swift migration of WhatsApp data from Android to iOS.
“We’re adding to WhatsApp the ability to securely switch between phones and transfer your chat history, photos, videos, and voice messages between Android and iPhone while maintaining end-to-end encryption.
“This is a top requested feature. We launched the ability to switch from iPhone–>Android last year, and now adding Android–>iPhone as well”, he wrote in the post.
The new update solves the difficulty of transferring chats between the two mobile operating systems, Android to iPhone.
Last September WhatsApp allowed users move their chat history from iOS to Samsung phones, and later the feature supported transfers from iOS to Google Pixels and other Android 12 devices.
With users being able to migrate their WhatsApp data from Android to iOS, this would bridge the obvious loop.
Criteria for the transfer requires that the user must be running Android 5 or higher on the Android device and iOS 15.5 on the iPhone. In the case of a preexisting chat history, the imported one will overwrite it.
Despite the new update it is still unclear which devices will support the feature, as well as when it will be fully functional.
