Stop Violence Or Face Wrath Of Ancestors, Monarchs Tell Troublemakers

Tradi­tional rulers in Ekiti State have threatened to invoke the spirits of their ancestors on any group of persons or individuals bent on turning the state into a bat­tleground.

The monarchs who spoke in turns in Ado-Ekiti at an emer­gency security meeting called by the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe in his palace reminded politicians and office seekers to always know that their ambition was not worth the life of anybody in Ekiti.

The traditional rulers ex­pressed displeasure over the frequent political violence and killings that have characterised campaigns in recent times.

The Royal Fathers admonished the major political players in the state in just a few days to the Gov­ernorship poll to prevail on their supporters and foot soldiers to give peace a chance.

The meeting and resolution reached by the royal fathers was sequel to the political cri­sis in Itaji and Ado Ekiti which led to the death of some persons while several others sustained serious injuries.

At the meeting that also had in attendance members of po­litical parties, leaders of driver unions and concerned citizens of the state, the chairman, Ek­iti State Council of Traditional Rulers, and Onisan of Isan Ek­iti, Oba Gabriel Adejuwon con­demned the upsurge of political violence and cautioned those behind such to stop or face the wrath of Ekiti ancestors.

Besides, the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe called on leaders of drivers and Okada riders to call their mem­bers to order.

Amongst the candidates who attended the meeting were Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (APC), Asiwaju Segun Oni ( SDP ) and Erelu Kemi Elebute Halle (ADP ).

The three governorship can­didates, however, thanked the monarchs for concern about the wellbeing of the Ekiti peo­ple and also promised to work towards peace before, during and after the poll.
